Home Renovation – The Details

Kitchen & Laundry Room Tile

There’s nothing more exciting (or more grown up) than building your dream house! To have it exactly how you want it and to come home to that oasis every day! If you have read the “About” section on the blog, you have a little background on how we came to live where we live. It certainly wasn’t our dream house from the start, but we are getting ready to make it so!

I posted a first Installment of our home renovation project here and have various mini home renovation projects in my “Home Interiors” section, but this reno is the big momma! So for those of you who might not know the process of renovating and adding on to a home, here’s a quick rundown. We met with an architect that was recommended to us and she began working on a few options of what what our addition could look like. We went back and forth (over the course of a year) and finally got our plans perfect. While we were doing that, we researched and priced out everything that we could think of from appliances to cabinets to flooring and everything in between. Once our plans were done, we had to submit them to the planning department in our town.

From there it has been a waiting game. It took about 4 weeks for the plans to get approved. They sent us back all of our paperwork and now we are ready to begin our project….if only it would stop raining long enough for them to break ground and pour the new foundation šŸ™

This post is just a little update on where we are at and what we are picking for our kitchen and laundry room!

White Subway TIle in Herringbone pattern

Above are the subway tiles that we have picked for the backsplash in the laundry room. We are going to use the long and thin ones that are at the top of the photo in a herringbone pattern! Check out my Pinterest page to see where I get all my inspo!

Carrerra Marble Kitchen Backsplash

We are using 12×4 carrara marble tiles for the backplash in our (all white) kitchen in a brick pattern.

Gray rectangular tile

We are re-doing the floors in the entire house with a new medium brown hardwood. We decided to transition to tile in the laundry and mudroom in case there is an accidental spill! We chose these long 36×12 gray tiles for the laundry room.

Gray Tile and Brick Pavers

I was really into doing brick pavers in the mudroom, but after deciding to do gray tile in the laundry room (the laundry room and mudroom are connected), we didn’t think they would go well together. Our tile consultant pointed our these faux brick pavers that are actually tile! They are super easy to clean and they go perfectly with the gray tile we picked out. We are also going to lay the pavers in a herringbone pattern to tie into the laundry room backsplash!

Master Bedroom Chandelier

Finally, we have so many new rooms, including a new master suite that we are going to have to find lighting for. This is one of the things that I have been procrastinating about because I just don’t really know where to begin without knowing how I am going to decorate the rooms.

Eric and I went to a lighting store near our house and we both fell in love with this light fixture for our bedroom! It’s got a little big of rugged manliness for Eric but just enough elegance for me!

As soon as the weather improves and we start this project I will be keep the updates coming!
