What could be better than Halloween candy, Thanksgiving dinner, and holiday cookies combined? Fall and winter fashion, of course. Even if you’ve already started filling up your wardrobe with warm and festive staples, there’s no better time to spruce up your collection with a few fresh pieces than in the middle of the season. After all, now is when the most popular trends are readily available, immediately wearable, and—perhaps most importantly—often on sale. Add these essentials from the fall/winter 2016 season to your lineup for ensembles that are equal parts chic, cozy, and completely of-the-moment.

Turtleneck Revival

An essential layering piece for cooler weather, the turtleneck is back at the forefront of fashion for fall and winter 2016. Edited writes that it was seen on the runways worked into long sleeved tops, forming the necklines of knit dresses, and dramatically oversized in sweaters. Whether you wear your turtleneck solo, layered beneath a slip dress, or via the chunkiest knit you can find, this is one trend that will quickly become a wardrobe go-to for the season.

Luxe Everyday

This trend is all about the basics done right. Think neutral, everyday pieces but with a luxurious, chic, and timeless aesthetic that instantly elevates that simple white shirt, go-to trouser, or little black dress. Lyst notes that designers such as Hugo Boss are the place to go for classic separates that fall into the category of ‘luxe everyday’ by combining quality materials, attention to detail, and elegant silhouettes. With a nod to minimalism this fall/winter trend is sure to fit right in with your existing wardrobe.

Feline Fetish

Animal prints (particularly of the feline variety) are a classic, no matter the season. Even though this particular wardrobe must-have isn’t always front and center in the current trends, it always seems to make its way back into the spotlight after a season or two—thankfully, fall/winter 2016 is just such a season. Designers have once again delved into the world of cat prints, reworking the classic leopard print as well as adding new variations to the mix. As Who What Wear points out, the ideas for this feline fashion moment stretch far and wide—from tiger-print velvet suits at Cavalli to jaguar-embellished knitwear at Gucci. Work a subtle piece into an otherwise neutral ensemble or wear head-to-toe for a look you can really sink your claws into.

Statement Fur

While fur definitely isn’t a fresh addition to fashion for the fall and winter months, the cold weather staple is getting a bit of a twist for the new season. Rather than sticking to the expected shades of black, brown, and white, WWD notes that designers worked in a rainbow array of hues, from pastel pink to cobalt blue—sometimes even combining several hues into a single coat via creative patchwork. From colorful geometric patterns to vibrant floral prints, this season’s fur is decidedly fun, modern, and eye-catching.

I’m not a fan of the cold weather, but I do love the fall/winter style! I need to add some more turtlenecks and solid color sweaters to my wardrobe!
