Palm Tree One Piece

Palm Tree One Piece

If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably saw that Eric and I went on a quick getaway to Miami for our joint birthday! Our birthdays are only a few days apart, which is perfect for planning something fun together! We decided on Miami because it was the perfect warm place to relax in during the cold March weather in NYC. We linked up with Erica from Elleoquent Style and some of her friends because it was also her husbands birthday! Within the first hour of arriving in the warm, 80 degree weather, I was wearing this adorable palm tree one piece and loving every minute of feeling the warm sun on my face!

We spent most of our days out by the pool of our hotel, the Mondrian South Beach. I spent a day at the Mondrian’s pool party when I visited Miami last year for a bachelorette party (read my Miami Travel Guide here). Here’s a breakdown of what we did.

Where We Stayed

As I said, we stayed at the Mondrian South Beach. This hotel is on the Canal side of Miami, so it is on the water, but not specifically on South Beach. If you are looking for a slightly more low key scene, this is better than Ocean Drive! The great thing about this hotel is that the rooms are large and spacious and you have a nice pool and party scene right in your backyard. The downside is that because this hotel is such a hot spot, they totally nickel and dime you with resort fees, etc. Just keep an eye out for those hidden fees!

Where We Ate

We generally had breakfast in the cafe in our hotel and lunch out by the pool. For dinner, we went out and experienced some of the best restaurants in town!

On the first night, we ate at Baoli Miami, which is an Asian Fusion restaurant that has the most beautiful outdoor patio. If you are looking for a restaurant that is also a party scene, then Baoli is for you. The DJ was playing some great music as we ate some of the most delicious sushi rolls and steak that we’ve ever had!

We also ate at the beautiful Matador Room at the Miami Beach EDITION. This was a Spanish tapas/family style restaurant, which you know I love! The food was great, but the service was very very slow. We did have a big table, but some of the locals told us it was slow regardless. It took us nearly 3 hours to eat. Keep that in mind if you are looking for a quick bite.

On the last day, we planned brunch at Kiki on the River, which is a Greek restaurant right on the water. If you read my first Miami Travel Guide then you might remember than we went to a restaurant for brunch right near Kiki on the River last time. There is really nothing like the views. We were seated at a huge center table and enjoyed the food and the DJ. It definitely turns into a party scene as the afternoon progresses, so make sure you keep that in mind if you plan to go! I would highly recommend Kiki on the River over the other brunch spot I went to last year!

Where We Partied

We mostly stayed away from the beach bars and clubs on Ocean Drive. The scene there is a younger (and drunker) crowd, which is great if that is what you are looking for. We were looking more to be able to have fun together and chat and dance.

After we ate dinner at the Matador Room, we headed down to (literally) the Basement which has an ice skating rink, bowling and a club. The club is on the smaller side, which is nice until it gets over crowded.

Overall, Eric and I had a great time enjoying the warm weather and wonderful friends during our birthday weekend!
