I could not be more excited to share my closet reveal with you! I teamed up with California Closets to create a completely custom dream closet! Since Eric and I renovated our home a few years ago, we have been itching to finish some projects that we haven’t had a chance to get to. Building my dream closet was on the top of my list (although maybe not on the top of Eric’s)! When we renovated, our closet was the last thing on our mind, so our contractor hung a bunch of racks for us and we called it a day (you can check out additional details on my IG Story Highlights under “Closet Reveal”). The closet worked for us for a while, but over time, we realized that we had no real method of organization for anything other than hanging clothes. Our shoes and accessories were everywhere and we were starting to get frustrated, despite how much space we had!

Enter California Closets! I had the opportunity to work with Ariane Brabant, who is an amazing closet designer out of their Sayville office. We had a few calls where we discussed my closet needs, style and budget and then Ariane got to work designing the perfect closet for our space. Once we had a high-level design, Ariane scheduled an in-person meeting to see the space, see how much clothing we had and to finalize the design. When I tell you that she was thorough, I am not kidding! Ariane and I spent over 3 hours together on a Friday afternoon going through every single piece of clothing and accessory item in my closet to ensure that the design would work perfectly for us. Once we honed our final design, Eric and I had to buckle down and prep the room. That included taking every single thing out of the closet and storing it anywhere we could find (ie. we had no guest rooms for about a month), removing the old racks, removing the baseboard and crown molding and then spackling and re-painting everything. We went with a simple flat white for the entire room to keep it crisp, light and bright!

Next was install day…and what an amazing day it was! The entire California Closets team arrived promptly at 9am and expertly installed our dream closet. I had no idea how precise and intricate the installation would be, proving that this is definitely a 100% custom operation. From gold hanging racks, to valet bars and belt and tie racks, to shaker style drawers, a middle island and shoe racks for days, we could not be happier with how the final product turned out. Not only do we now have a spot for everything that we own, but we actually increased the amount of storage that we have in our closet significantly.
We wanted to make sure that not only did we keep as much hanging space as possible, but we increased the amount of drawer space that we have as well. We were able to do that by adding drawers under the window as well as in the island. By keeping double hanging racks, we kept all of our hanging space in-tact and also added designated spaces for my shoes and bags. What was once wasted space was put to use with floor to ceiling hanging and shelving units. I also love the valet bars that we installed, which are perfect for hanging the clothes that Eric and I will be wearing the next day. Keeping all of our belts and Eric’s ties organized on specified racks was also a game changer as was Eric’s coveted hat storage wall. I also had the opportunity to work with a Closet Organizer, Kristi from Calm and Contained, who helped us determine how to organize our storage space, making it both beautiful and functional!
So far, our new closet has been extremely functional (as well as looking amazing) and we couldn’t be happier with our decision to finally go ahead with a custom closet. The best part about California Closets is that no two closets are the same and everything can be customized to exactly what you want and need.
