Family Room Home Decor

When my sister and I were in high school, our parents built their dream house. They spent over a year perfecting the design and building their home from the ground up. They have been empty-nesters for a while now and are finally considering selling their home in favor of building a new, albeit smaller, dream home that is closer to me and Eric. Although they are not quite ready to leave just yet, they have decided to start sprucing up some of the rooms that were a little outdated. Since they built and furnished in the early-2000’s, all of the rooms needed a fresh coat of paint and some more modern decor. The heart of the home (aside from the kitchen which got a huge update) is the family room. This is the room that we spend all of our holidays in and is the first room you see when you walk in the front door. We repainted the room in Pale Oak (Benjamin Moore) and updated the Family Room Home Decor!

Before, the room had darker paint on the walls and maroon and emerald green furniture. We decided that light and bright was the way to go and replaced everything with neutral and bright decor. This couch and matching accent chairs were the perfect answer. They have a transitional style, are super comfortable and are the perfect color! We paired those pieces with this faded oriental rug that has pops of blue and turquoise. We actually have this same rug in our Living Room. We decided to go with gold accents to give the room a more modern and glamorous feel. Pops of gold in the coffee table, side table and console table behind the couch did just that. I also love this round gold infinity mirror, which gives the room another updated push! It’s always important to balance a room with textures and soft elements, like this basket and throw blanket. Overall, I think the room looks absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to spend some holidays here!
