Fall Home Decor

I can’t even believe that I am saying that Fall is officially here, but I am! This summer flew by and Eric and I have been enjoying the gorgeous Fall weather. New York weather has a tendency to be extreme, either hot and humid, rainy or freezing and icy. In the Spring and Fall, we get some of our most beautiful weather and this Fall is no exception. It has been in the 70’s, with no humidity and a light breeze. We tend to savor these days because they are just so few and far between! Along with Fall weather comes decorating our home with Fall accents! My Fall Home Decor usually consists of putting some Mums outside and lighting a Fall inspired candle. This year, I teamed up with Hot Skwash to go all out on decorating my mantle for Fall!

Hot Skwash is a small business run by a Daria and her group of Girl Boss’s out of Portland, OR. They create beautiful silk velvet pumpkins that are the perfect Fall Home Decor accessories. All of the Hot Skwash pumpkins are handmade using high end materials and real gourd stems sourced from local farms, which I love! They come in various shapes, colors and sizes, making them perfect for any home and any space! Hot Skwash also has fun designs that include feather and crystal embellishments!

When we renovated our home back in 2016, Eric and I knew that we wanted to make a statement with our fireplace! We had our contractor custom build our mantle to be large and tall so that it would do just that! We also chose materials that we felt would stand the test of time in terms of durability and style. Especially for holidays, our mantle is decorated to give our home a cozy and well-styled feel. I knew that the Hot Skwash pumpkins were going to be the perfect accessory for Fall. As I mentioned previously, they come in a variety of colors and sizes. My whole home is very neutral, so Daria worked with me to pick out the perfect selection of neutral colors to really accentuate my taste and style. A variety of sizes were used to create a look that feels both haphazard and yet styled. I began with the larger pumpkins, which I placed along the mantle and then I filled in the gaps with the medium and smaller sized pumpkins until I felt like the mantle felt full. I added a metal gold leaf garland to add additional drama and to tie in with my gold candlesticks. If you want a less industrial or metallic look, try leafy green garland, which would also look amazing with the Hot Skwash pumpkins.

To tie my mantle in with some of the other Fall home decor I had around our Family Room, I put some of the pumpkins on the hearth. I used an embroidered pumpkin pillow to add additional texture and to make the space feel more cozy, like you could grab the pillow and use it to lay by the fire (which I fully intend to do)! I added other Fall accents near the mantle, include fall branches in a vase and Fall inspired candles on the end table nearby. My favorite scents include Leaves, Cranberry, Pumpkin Spice and Cider Donut! I am so happy with how the mantle turned out and so grateful to Daria and her team for partnering up with me to share their unique and inspiring business with you!

Hey Kristen, I love the fireplace extension. Question, does the moulding go to the top of peaked ceiling or square out?

Julie – Thanks so much for the kind words! The molding goes all the way up to the peaked ceiling and follows the ceiling/roofline at the top.

      I hope that helps!

      xoxo,

Hi. Really pretty. What color is your mantle? What color are your walls? Would the mantle be to bright for a brick fireplace?

      Hi Shari!

My mantle is Decorators White in Semi-Gloss and my walls are Paper White in Matte, both from Benjamin Moore. I think a crisp white against any darker color would look great! What color is your brick fireplace? Standard red brick or maybe a white-washed brick?

      Thanks for stopping by!
