Hey Everyone!! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! While most (normal) people were eating turkey, drinking wine and watching football, my family and I were DIYing like crazy. My mom is someone who, like me, can never sit still, so we made a lot of progress on the house and forced the whole family to help!
Disclaimer: We did eat turkey, drink wine and watch football also, so don’t worry!!
For my bridal shower, my bridesmaids pooled their funds and got us this amazing comforter. The set was pretty expensive, so instead of buying all of the matching pieces, Eric’s mom suggested buying matching fabric and making our own bed skirt.
I was pretty skeptical about making my own bed skirt, but this project was the start of my DIY and blogging life!
This DIY project is super easy. We took the pillow case off and took it to JoAnn’s where we were easily able to find a fabric that coordinated with the comforter. We bought about 3 1/2 yards of fabric, which we were able to cut in half to make both sides of the bed skirt. While I am not a seamstress, Eric’s mom kindly offered to hem the edges of the fabric.
In lieu of hemming the fabric, fabric glue is a great alternative. See my DIY Throw Pillow post for a fabric glue tutorial!
Once both lengths of fabric were hemmed, I had Eric and my Dad hold up the mattress while I spread out the sides. Note that there is no fabric wasted on the entire length of the bed. Instead, we secured the fabric to the box spring with silver duct tape (yes…duct tape).
That’s all there is too it!
Our bedroom is slowly coming together! Stay tuned for more updates and DIY projects!!
Enjoy!!
