We are headed to Cape Cod for July 4th this year. I can never arrive anywhere empty handed, even at a close friends house, so I decided to make a fun and Festive July 4th Dessert for the occasion! Rice krispie treats are definitely a dessert that I enjoyed while growing up, so I figured they were the perfect base for this festive recipe. This is an easy no-bake recipe because you can use store bought rice krispie treats. You can also make them from scratch if you’d like, but it is not a requirement! All we are really going to do is dress up these treats in festive red, white and blue accents!
Ingredients
White Candy Melts
Red Candy Melts
Blue Candy Melts
If you can’t find candy melts, you can use white chocolate. Separate it into three separate bowls, melt and use food coloring to dye them to any color you’d like
6-8 Packaged Rice Krispie Treats
4 Paper Straws (cut in half)
Red, white and blue icing, sprinkles or other decorations
Recipe
Melt the white candy melts in the microwave first, according to the instructions on the package
After cutting the paper straws in half, dip one end of the straw into the melted candy and stick it into the short end of the rice krispie treat. Set aside treats on parchment paper to dry.
Next, melt the red candy melts in the microwave, according to the instructions on the package.
If using white chocolate, melt chocolate and add food coloring gel (oil based) to achieve a red color.
Using the straw, dip each rice krispie treat into the red melted chocolate, coating the top half of the treat. Remove excess by tapping the treat on the side of the bowl. Place the treats on the parchment paper to dry.
Next, melt the blue candy melts in the microwave, according to the instructions on the package and dip the treats in the same was as done for the red candy melts. This time, sprinkle the red, white and blue sprinkles onto the candy before it dries. Place the treats on the parchment paper to dry.
If using white chocolate, melt chocolate and add food coloring gel (oil based) to achieve a blue color.
If necessary, re-warm the white candy melts in the microwave and add to a ziplock bag. Trim one corner of the bag and drizzle the white candy over the red treats. Place treats on parchment paper to dry.
Store the decorated treats in an air-tight container until ready to serve
