Bathroom Organization

I don’t know anyone who says that organization doesn’t make them feel better and more in control of their lives! Over the next few months, I am planning to tackle a few different spaces throughout my home that have been nagging me in terms of organization. The first area I’ve decided to take on is my Bathroom Organization with The Container Store! This is one of the most used spaces in my home aside from my Kitchen, but it is also a place that gets cluttered and messy really quickly. I am not an organizational expert by any means, but I’m going to share my mantra with you anyway…

PURGE // ORGANIZE // FUNCTION

PURGE

First and foremost, take all items out of the space you are trying to organize. In this case, this required me to remove all of my toiletries, makeup and hair appliances. From there, I looked through items that I don’t use, are expired or are duplicates and made a keep pile and a toss/donate pile.

ORGANIZE

With the items that landed in the keep pile, I started grouping them into categories. Eyeshadow, Foundation, Lipstick, Curling Irons, etc. From there, I took a look at the organizational products that I ordered and began organizing the items into bins, drawers and baskets!

FUNCTION

After I organized, I put all of the bins back into the cabinet and arranged and re-arranged them until they functioned in a way that would make my everyday life easier. I lived the different arrangements for a day or two to make sure that they functioned in the way I needed them to. If something didn’t make sense, I tweaked it until it worked!

PLASTIC BINS & DRAWERS

I love these clear plastic bins & drawers. I used different sized drawers depending on what items I was organizing. For example, I put all of my foundations, bronzers and highlighters together in a large drawer with a bin insert. I separated all of my lipsticks, glosses and liners and put them into a bin using dividers. The larger drawers were used for larger items and the smaller ones were used for thinner items such as eyeshadow palettes. Overall, I feel like I will be able to more easily find the makeup I want.

INCREASED FUNCTIONALITY

I am also a bit weird and always kept all of my makeup in a travel bag rather than organized in drawers. I traveled so much for work that it was much easier to just have everything I needed already in my travel case rather than risk forgetting something if I was packing in a rush. Since I am not travelling for work for the foreseeable future, I decided that it was finally time to properly organize my makeup so that I’m not working out of a travel bag when I am home. It’s been such a game changer for me!

AESTHETICALLY PLEASING

Even though my cabinets weren’t totally unorganized, they didn’t really look great. First, I wasn’t utilizing any vertical space, which was such a waste. Second, I only had one organizational bin, so everything else was free-floating. Finally, as I mentioned before, most of my makeup and toiletries were stuffed into travel bags, rather than being easily accessible. Laying everything out in clear bins & drawers give an organized, functional and aesthetically pleasing look that is so easy to achieve!
